Obituary of Leslie Noffer

Mr. Leslie F. "Les" Noffer, age 86, of 611 2nd Ave., Ext., passed away on Thursday morning, September 30, 2004. His passing occurred in Valley Health Services, Herkimer. He was born on April 14, 1919 the son of the late Anthony and Louise Noffer and was educated in Ilion schools. On August 27, 1939, Les was joined in marriage with Ann C. Garnsey in Annunciation Church, Ilion. Prior to Ann's passing on April 25, 2003, the couple had shared a loving union of 64 years, one that was characterized by their true love, their mutual devotion and their admiration and respect for one another. Les and Ann were partners in all of their endeavors and joys. The family is comforted by the fact that they are together again. Mr. Noffer's was self-employed as a car salesman for many years and owned and operated Noffer Motor's in Ilion. He is remembered by many selling Studabaker's prior to dealing in American Motors. He was formerly employed by Holt Brothers in Mohawk and Empire Auto Sales in Little Falls. He was a communicant of Annunciation Church, Ilion. Les was a former member of Rotary Club and the Ilion Elk's Lodge #1444. First and foremost, Les was a family man who considered his loved ones as the primary focus of his life. He was dedicated and attentive husband who served his wife as a gentle and steadfast caregiver. He was also an outstanding father, one who offered his children his affection, support and guidance. His children and grandchildren will always cherish the memories that he leaves in their hearts. Throughout his life, he made a strong impact on other people and leaves his friends with many inspiring memories. His most happiest times were spent in the camaraderie of his friends and could always be found enjoying a cigar and a glass of wine. He also enjoyed going out to dinner, antique cars and gardening. Survivors include three children, Leslie J. Noffer of New York Mills, Lawrence W. Noffer of Ft. Johnson, NY, Robert M. Noffer of Whitesboro and Julie Lafayette and husband George of Herkimer, five grandchildren, Thomas Noffer of New York Mills, Scott Noffer of Whitesboro, Christopher Noffer of Ballston Spa, Michael Lafayette of Buffalo and Jason Lafayette of Albany. He was predeceased by five sisters: Rose Renshaw, Mary Noffer, Genevieve Hughes, Antoinette Noffer, Fedele Noffer and by a brother Albert Noffer. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the The Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Frankfort and Ilion, (894-8000) on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004 from 5-8 p.m. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, Oct. 4, at 9:15 from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10 am from Annunciation Church, West St., Ilion where the Rev. Anthony Barratt, pastor, will celebrate his Mass of Christian Burial. Funeral procession will follow to Green Lawn Cemetery, New Hartford where he will be laid to rest with his wife Ann. In lieu of floral offerings, kindly consider contributions in his memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Foundation; donations may be made at the funeral parlor. The family extends its gratitude to the staff of Valley Health Services who strove to maintain the wonderful care given to Less and his family during his recent illness.
