Obituary of Alvin Scott

Mr. Alvin J. Scott, 89, of 4763 Four Seasons Drive, Liverpool, a former Dolgeville resident, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at Upstate Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born July 3, 1914, in Inghams Mills, the son of Clark w. and Flora (Snell) Scott and was a graduate of Dolgeville High School. His marriage to Nadean Vandament took place on March 2, 1940, in Dolgeville. Mrs. Scott predeceased him on Oct. 16, 2001. A veteran of the Army, he served his country honorably during World War II. Together with his wife they owned and operated the Newport Hardware store for 16 years until 1960, after which they purchased a hardware store in Minoa, operating it until they retired in 1969. He was a member of the West Canada Valley American Legion Post 1524. Survivors include his sons, Carl and his wife Susan Scott and Charles Scott, both of Liverpool; his granddaughters, Lisa Scott and Linda and her husband Jeff Cassel; and two nieces. A graveside prayer service will be held in the Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, at the convenience of the family in the spring. There are no calling hours. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse 13220 in his memory. Arrangements are entrusted to the Roberts-Buck Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville.
