Obituary of Allen Seifried

Allen Charles Seifried, age 58, of 1724 Barringer Rd., Ilion, loving husband of Cheryl (Haughton) Seifried, went to be with the Lord early Monday morning, January 19, 2004 after a courageous and heroic battle with cancer. His loving family was at his side. He was born on December 2, 1945 in Little Falls, a son of the late Jacob Seifried and Armetta (Youker) Seifried who resides in Little Falls. He was raised and educated in Little Falls. He received a bachelor's degree of Sociology from Utica College, a master's degree in education from SUNY Oneonta, a master's degree in counseling from Liberty University, a certificate of advanced studies from SUNY Cortland and was currently completing requirements to receive a degree in Education Administration from Nova Southeastern College. On July 2, 1982, Allen was united in marriage with the former Cheryl Haughton in the Baptist Church, Waterville. His last professional association was with Remington Elementary School in Ilion where he was principal for eight years. Prior to this job, he was a teacher for twenty seven years at the Barringer Road Elementary School in Ilion. He was the recipient of the Who's Who award in the East for outstanding achievement in the field of education. He taught psychology part time at Utica College and at SUNY IT in Marcy. Allen truly enjoyed sports and coached track, basketball and baseball at the Ilion Jr-Sr. High School. Over the course of his career, Allen gained the respect of his fellow teachers and students. He was an individual of integrity and honor as well as a man of his word. Imbued with a great strength of character, Allen undertook all projects and fulfilled all responsibilities, both in his professional pursuits and his personal life, with unshakable determination and commitment. Allen especially enjoyed spending time in the rewarding and gratifying company of his family. He was blessed with a sincere concern for others with a willing generosity to offer his help, support, and understanding in order to fix any situation or meet any need. Allen was gifted with a wonderful sense of humor and a sociable personality even displaying these qualities during his illness. Greatly loved and respected by all who knew him, he will be remembered as a good companion and a true friend. He was an avid outdoorsman often retreating to his camp, where he loved to relax and appreciate his leisure time. Deeply devoted to religion, he was a member of the First Baptist Church, Little Falls. Survivors include his mother, Armetta Seifried of Little Falls, wife Cheryl of Ilion, his son who held a special place in his heart, Nathaniel A. Seifried of Ilion, a loving and devoted daughter, Tricia C. Seifried of Charlotte, NC, a beloved sister, Marlene C. Seifried of Little Falls, in laws, Suzanne Haughton of Charlotte, NC, and Mark and Lea Haughton of Fulton, NY. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, cousins one niece, two nephews and many wonderful friends. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004 from 4-8 p.m. Allen's funeral will commence at 10 am on Thursday, Jan. 22, from the First Baptist Church, Albany St., Little Falls with the Rev. Donald Dixon, pastor, the Rev. Dawes Dunham, and the Rev. Chris Wintermute, officiating. He will be laid to rest in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, this spring. In lieu of floral offerings, kindly consider Memorial contributions to the Allen C. Seifried Scholarship Fund c/o the Ilion Central School District, the Little Falls First Baptist Church Softball Team Uniform Fund or to Hospice Care, Inc. Envelopes are available at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion/Frankfort. The Seifried family would like to thank Hospice Care, Inc., for the tender love and care given to them. Also to Dr. James and Linda Ward for graciously opening their hearts and their home. A special thanks to the Little Falls First Baptist Church family for their spritual guidance and also to the Remington Elementary School and Barringer Road School families for their concern and compassion. Allen's family is also grateful to all their relatives, friends, co-workers, neighbors and students who offered such supportive compassion and concern throughout his illness.
