Roland R. Smith, Sr., 66 of 687 E. Monroe St., Little Falls, passed away on Sunday August 29, 2004 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, NY. HE was born April 3, 1938 in Palatine Bridge, NY the son of the late Claude & Elizabeth (Blakeslee) Smith. Roland was educated in Fort Plain schools. His marriage to Vivian E. Rickard took place on April 4, 1959 in Canajoharie. The couple shared a blessed union of marriage for 31 years until the passing of Mrs. Smith on April 23, 1990. For 16 years, Roland was employed at the former Palatine Dye Co. in St. Johnsville. Mr. Smith was of the Baptist faith. With his family as his foremost priority, Roland proved himself as a loving and caring father and grandfather. Survivors include 4 sons, Gordon G. Root and wife Susan of Jacksonville, Fla., Roland R. Smith, Jr. and friend Eileen Jones of Canajoharie, Everett E. Smith and wife Susan of Oppenheim, & Bernard G. Smith of St. Johnsville; 3 daughters, Barbara J. Turner and husband Rick of Burlington Flatts, Cindy Ann Smith of Little Falls, & Marlene Ann Jodway and husband Edward of Stratford; 2 sisters, Eva Baker of Ephratah and Addie Warner of Fort Plain; 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins. He was pre-deceased by a son, Floyd (Pete) Root and 2 brothers, William & Claude Smith. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 1, 2004 at 11:00 am from the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, NY with Reverend Donald Dixon, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Little Falls. Interment will follow at Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls, NY.
