Obituary of Bernice Thompson

Mrs. Bernice M. Thompson, 81, a resident of the Masonic Home in Utica since June 1997, died there Tuesday, June 22, 2004, after a brief illness. Prior to residing there, she lived with her son Peter in Little Falls and also with her son Mark in Nedrow. She was born on January 17, 1923, in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Nash) Matthews and was educated in schools there. She married James R. Thompson, who predeceased her in 1975. Mrs. Thompson was employed at one time as an occupational therapist for the Utica Psychiatric Center, retiring from there several years ago. She will be remembered by her family and friends as one who loved to do leather craft and pottery work. She was also a skillful teacher, having taught reading and the Braille reading system to many people. She is survived by her sons, Peter Thompson of Little Falls and Mark and his wife Gloria Thompson of Nedrow. Funeral services will be held Friday morning, June 25, at 11 a.m. from the Roberts-Buck Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville. David Tarbox from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
