Obituary of Peter Tolfa
Peter P. Tolfa, 84 a life long St. Johnsville resident, passed away on Friday July 23, 2004 at St. Elizabeth?s Medical Center, Utica, NY. He was born September 9, 1919 in St. Johnsville the son of the late Joseph & Loretta (Coggi) Tolfa. Pete was educated in St. Johnsville schools. His marriage to Ann Bilobrowka took place on April 11, 1942 at St. Patrick?s Church in St. Johnsville. Mr. Tolfa was a World War II Navy veteran, enlisting on April 25, 1944 and was honorably discharged on January 7, 1946 with the rank of Coxswain (T). Pete was last employed as a mail carrier for St. Johnsville Post Office. For many years, he was co-owner of the Central Hotel in St. Johnsville. At one time he worked at Helmont Mills in St. Johnsville. He was a member of St. Patrick?s Church in St. Johnsville and was a member of the St. Johnsville American Legion and a former member of the Little Falls Elks Lodge. Pete was an active outdoorsman, enjoying all types of sports, including bowling, golf and baseball. He was a well known local baseball player, known throughout St. Johnsville as Mr. Baseball. In his leisure he enjoyed visiting the local OTB. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ann; a son, Peter Tolfa and wife Mary of North Attoboro, Mass; 2 daughters; Loretta Smith and husband Donald of Palatine Bridge, & Rebecca Sokol and husband Joe of St. Johnsville; a brother, Guido (Skeets) Tolfa of Utica, 3 sisters; Clara Frezza of St. Johnsville, Molly Battisti and husband Romeo of St. Johnsville, and Jessie Tolfa of Frankfort; his grandchildren, Eric Smith , Sarah (Sokol) Quigg, Ryan Sokol, Julia Tolfa and Andrew Tolfa, and several nieces, nephews & cousins. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Lorenzo (Larry) Tolfa. Funeral Services will be held on Monday July 26, 2004 at 9:00 am from the Smith ? Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY and at 9:30 am from St. Patrick?s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Sunday July 25, 2004 from 5-8 pm.
