Obituary of Harold VanValkenburg

Harold "Hal" VanValkenburg, 50, a longtime St. Johnsville resident, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2004, at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Chris and James Brownell Jr., after a courageous and determined battle with cancer. He was born September 27, 1953, in Little Falls and was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, class of 1971. Hal was a detailer for Robert C. Failing Ford in St. Johnsville and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. With family his foremost priority, Hal proved himself a loving and caring son, brother and uncle. An avid outdoorsman, he looked forward to hunting season. As a sports enthusiast, Hal enjoyed all sports, including NASCAR and stock car racing. He is survived by his mother, Jean VanValkenburg of St. Johnsville; a sister, Chris Brownell and husband, James Jr., of Oppenheim; three nieces, Tasha Smith, Tiffany Smith and Ashley Smith, all of Oppenheim; a nephew, Shawn Seeley of Oppenheim; several cousins and three uncles, George Haggerty and wife, Marilyn, of Fort Plain, Harvey VanValkenburg and wife, Cathy, of Johnstown and Russell VanValkenburg and wife, Carol, of Broadalbin. He was predeceased by a sister, Cindy VanValkenburg, in 1971. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 30, at 10 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church in St. Johnsville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Spring interment will be in West St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, on Thursday, January 29, from 6-8 p.m.
