Obituary of Ray Wiers
Ray Larkin Wiers, Jr., passed away on Tuesday July 20, 2004. He was 77 years old. Ray was born in Fonda, NY on December 2, 1926, the son of Ray Larkin & Charlotte (Benedict) Wiers. He graduated from Canajoharie Central School. Ray enlisted in the US Army in December of 1946 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in December of 1949 after serving in the European Theater. Upon returning from the service, Ray was joined in holy matrimony to Irene Allen on February 9, 1951 in Canajoharie in a loving union that spanned 53 years. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Irene; his brother, Robert Wiers of Herkimer; and two sisters; Ann Wiers of North Carolina and Mary Johnson of Canajoharie. He is also survived by his daughters, Cathy Conant and husband Paul of Mohawk, & Cindy Stagliano and husband Frank of St. Johnsville, his son, Steven Wiers and fianc? Sondra Butcher of Rome, NY. Ray had 4 grandchildren, Paul R. Conant and wife Jennifer Gazak of Scotia, NY, Matthew Conant of Ilion, and Malinda and Alissa Stagliano of St. Johnsville. He was pre-deceased by his brothers, Donald, Fred & Richard Wiers, and a sister, Carol Bussing. Ray was owner of Lovier?s Dairy on Caroline St. in Herkimer with his brothers Fred, Robert & Richard. He also worked for Hennessey?s and Canteen Vending. He was partners with his brother Bob installing many in-ground swimming pools and providing service work. Ray was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Herkimer, and was also a member of the Herkimer VFW and the Herkimer American Legion. He was also a past member of the Herkimer Elks Lodge #1439. Ray was an avid New York Yankee fan and loved to go the Bills games. Ray gave and received incomparable love through the family and all through his life was highly respected member of the community. Mr. Wiers will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, NY with full military honors on Friday July 23, 2004 at 11:00 am with Reverend Wrightson Tongue, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer, officiating. Calling hours will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Holleran ? Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to St. Jude?s Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
