Obituary of Glenn Bruce

Glenn Bruce, 76, of 1350 River Rd., Fort Plain, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at St. Johnsville Nursing Home. He was born March 15, 1926, in Nelliston, the son of the late Lee and Dorothy (Jump) Bruce. Glenn was educated in Fort Plain schools and lived all his life in the St. Johnsville area. Mr. Bruce was a World War II Army veteran, enlisting on June 8, 1944, and was honorably discharged on July 15, 1946, with the rank of Corporal. While serving his country, Glenn received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was last employed at Beech-Nut where he was a security guard. At one time he worked as a car salesman for the former Capece Auto in St. Johnsville and Provorse Motors in Little Falls. He also was at one time employed at LaSalle's in Little Falls. Mr. Bruce was of the Lutheran faith. Glenn was a member of the St. Johnsville American Legion Post 168, Fort Plain VFW Post 3275 and the Fort Plain Elks Lodge. Survivors include his daughters, Toni Brown and husband Phil of St. Johnsville and Glenna Snell of St. Johnsville; his companion, Polly Blakeslee; a brother, Harold Lasher and wife Pauline of Amsterdam; two sisters, Bernice Lasher and Lona Lasher, both of Albany; seven grandchildren, P.J Brown, Tracy Reese, Glenda Looman, Toni Snell, Brenda Lamphere, Dean Bruce and Lee Bruce Jr.; several great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a son, Lee A. Bruce on July 27,1994. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 21, at 7 p.m. from the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, with Reverend Kenneth Dingman, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Plain, officiating. Spring interment will take place in West St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of the services. All memorial contributions may be made to S.A.V.A.C or to St. Johnsville Nursing Home Resident Counsel. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
