Obituary of Rocco Calicchia
Mr. Rocco A. Calicchia, age 72, of 15 Woodside Ave., Little Falls, a former Alderman with the City of Little Falls, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday evening, February 25, 2003 at Little Falls Hospital. He was surrounded by his family and friends at the time of his passing. Rocco was born on October 22, 1930 in Little Falls a son of the late Natale and Frances (Monaco) Calicchia and was a graduate of Little Falls High School. He was a lifelong Little Falls resident. He entered into military service enlisting with the United States Army (Air Force Division) on January 6, 1949 and was honorably discharged on January 5, 1950. Rocco was united in Holy Matrimony with the former Mary Bonanni on November 27, 1971 in Little Falls, a union of 32 years. He was employed as a paper maker with Burrows Paper Mill, retiring in 1984. He attended the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph, Herkimer. He served as an alderman with the City of Little Falls from 1984-1995. He was an avid mushroom gatherer and a wonderful cook and truly enjoyed sharing his creations with others. Rocco shared many joyous and memorable occasions with his loved ones and will be dearly missed. He leaves his beloved wife Mary, a son, Mark Calichia and wife Carol of Nunda, NY, a daughter, Marcia Calicchia of Albany, a brother George Calicchia and wife Yvonne of Ilion, a sister, Adeline Frank of Little Falls, two grandchildren, Nathan and Christopher Calicchia, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves in laws, Larry Bonanni of Little Falls, Nancy Tretola of Little Falls, Frank Bonanni and wife Dorothy of Boston and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by a sister Antoinette Crawford. There are no calling hours. Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Friday morning, February 28, 2003, commencing at 9:30 am in the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph, South Main St., Herkimer with the Rev. Robert Shinos, pastor officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives in the vestibule of the church at the conclusion of the Mass. Mr. Calicchia will be laid to rest this spring in Mt. View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls at a time to be announced. Kindly consider remembrances in honor of Rocco to a charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available in the vestibule of the church on Friday morning or may be obtained at the funeral home. The family extends its sincere gratitude to the many friends and family who provided much-needed and much-appreciated concern, compassion and kindness throughout Rocco's life and during his illness.
