Obituary of Katherine Carroll
Katherine M. "Katie" Carroll, 80, a longtime St. Johnsville resident, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2003, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. She was born July 27, 1923, in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Majicka) Leve, and was educated in Little Falls schools. Her marriage to Anthony J. "Tony" Carroll took place on May 11, 1946, at St. Joseph's Church in Little Falls. The couple shared a blessed union of marriage for 51 years until the passing of Mr. Carroll on June 29, 1997. For 35 years, Katie was employed at the former Corso Dress Company in St. Johnsville. Mrs. Carroll was a member of St. Patrick's Church and its Altar Rosary Society. Katie was also an active member of the St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, serving as treasurer for many years, and was a member of the St. Johnsville Senior Saints. With family as her foremost priority, Katie proved herself to be a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She loved to bake and was known for her homemade spaghetti. In her leisure she enjoyed crocheting. Survivors include her son, James Carroll and wife, MaryAnn, of Utica; two daughters, Joan Sargeant and husband, Larry, of Little Falls and Patricia Long and husband, Thomas, of Little Falls; her grandchildren, Meghann Long and fianc?, David Zononi, of South Deerfield, Mass., Tommy Long of Little Falls, Shawn P. Regan and wife, Erin, of New York City and Michael, Christina and Anna Carroll, all of Utica; her sisters-in-law, Jane Levi and Tillie Leve, both of East Herkimer, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers; John and Martin Levi and Steven Leve; and two sisters, Betty Dunckel and Susanna LaCelle. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 18, at 9 a.m. from the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, and at 9:30 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow at West St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Sunday, August 17, from 5-8 p.m. All memorial contributions may be made to S.A.V.A.C or to the St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
