Obituary of Jack Kirkpatrick
Mr. Jack E. Kirkpatrick, 78, of 1055 E. German St., Herkimer, beloved husband of Margaret Kirkpatrick, passed away on Thursday morning, Feb. 13, 2003, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford, after a long illness. Jack was born on Aug. 30, 1924, in East Herkimer, a son of the late Edward and Mary (Fullem) Kirkpatrick. He received his education in St. Francis de Sales School and was a graduate of Herkimer High School. He was united in marriage with the former Margaret Gedeon on July 30, 1955. The marriage was a blessed union of 47 years. He was last employed with the Miller Brewing Company in Fulton. He was also employed by Sperry-Rand UNIVAC in Ilion and Utica at one time. Jack was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was never happier than when he was surrounded by his grandchildren. He was a man who gave freely of himself, his time and his gifts for the benefit of his family. He truly enjoyed watching the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and was proud of his Irish heritage. He was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. He leaves his wife, Margaret of the home address; five children, Jack Kirkpatrick Jr. of Herkimer, Robert Kirkpatrick and wife Andrea of Oceanside, Calif., Margaret Kirkpatrick of Herkimer, Dr. Daniel Kirkpatrick and wife Kari of New Hartford and Dennis Kirkpatrick of Herkimer; a brother James Kirkpatrick and wife Ann of New Hartford; a sister M. Joan Kirkpatrick of Herkimer; three cherished grandchildren, Blase, Joseph and Jack Kirkpatrick; a brother-in-law Robert Gedeon and wife Lois of Lewiston; a sister-in-law Kathleen Ziemba and husband Eugene of Beloit, Wis.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, from 4-8 p.m. at the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer. Jack's funeral will commence at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, from the chapel of the funeral home, where prayer will be offered, and at 9 from St. Francis de Sales Church, North Bellinger Street, Herkimer, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor. He will be laid to rest this spring in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, in the family plot at a time to be announced. A special thank you to Carol, Dee-Dee and Amanda for the special care provided on the third floor, plus the nurses and physical therapists on the second floor at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. An extra special thank you to the doctors and nurses and especially to Linda and Carol in the dialysis unit and Mary Schumaci, the dietitian in dialysis whose thoughtfulness was very much appreciated and the social workers, Jan Baracz and Melinda Vogel who went the "extra mile" to help the family.
