Obituary of Vida Leach

Mrs. Vida G. (Gregorka) Leach, 91, a longtime Little Falls resident, sister of Leo Gregorka and wife Eve and Mary Vincent, entered into eternal rest on Monday evening, December 23, 2003. She was born on February 24, 1912 in Little Falls, a daughter of the late Frank and Teresa (Cigale) Gregorka and was educated in St. Mary's Academy. She also attended St. Peter's School of Nursing in Albany and became a registered nurse in 1934. At one time she resided in Albany and New Jersey. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Francis V. Leach on June 16, 1951 in Little Falls. Mr. Leach predeceased her on February 24, 1982. A United States Veteran, Vida enlisted on August 5, 1942 and served in the Army Nurse Corp. in Europe serving in the 34th Evacuation Hospital. She was honorably discharged on March 16, 1946, holding the rank of 1st Lieutenant. She was last employed with St. Peter's Hospital, Albany and also was employed at one time with hospitals in Staten Island and with the VA Hospital in Albany, retiring in 1974. Vida was a communicant of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls. She was a member of St. Peter's Alumni Association, St. Peters Retiree Group, Hart Club of Albany and the AARP. Mrs. Leach was a dedicated care-giver to her patients and to her family. She was a gentle and caring woman who loved her job. Motivated by a strong work ethic, and teaching largely by example, Vida generously offered her time and efforts for the benefit of many. She will be dearly missed. Survivors include a brother, Leo Gregorka and wife Eve of Little Falls, a sister Mary Vincent of Little Falls, in laws Anne Gregorka, John Leach, and Pearl Gregorka. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a twin sister, Vera Foley, a sister Josephine Lang, three brothers, Arthur Gregorka, Fred Gregorka and Edward Gregorka. The family will be present in the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, on Friday, December 26, 2003 from 5-7 p.m. Vida's funeral will commence at 9:30am on Saturday, Dec. 27, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10 am from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Streets, Little Falls where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Vail. Spring interment will be held in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery, Tannersville.
