Obituary of Dorothy Richie

Dorothy A. (Dottie) Richie, 77, of 116 Arthur St., East Herkimer, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. She was born Feb. 25, 1926, in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Harry T. and Mildred (Dockerty) Kinney. Dorothy was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, class of 1943, and also attended St. Rose Nursing School in Amsterdam. Dottie lived all of her life in the Little Falls and Herkimer area. Her marriage to Raphael (Ralph) Richie Sr. took place Nov. 18, 1944, at St. Mary's Church in Little Falls. Mrs. Richie was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer and was a member of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post 25 Ladies Auxiliary, where she held at one time the positions of chaplain and junior auxiliary leader. Dottie was also involved with the former East Herkimer Cub Scouts, pack 22, where at one time she was a den mother, cub master and committee person. Dorothy centered her life around her family. She proved herself to be a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Along with her family, Dorothy took much pride in and had a special talent for decorating cakes for any occasion. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Raphael (Ralph); two sons, Ralph Richie Jr. and wife Evelyn (Sue) of East Herkimer and Michael D. Richie and wife Carol of Oak Harbor, Wash.; two daughters, JoAnne Bouck and husband Richard of Ilion and Cheri-Lynn Richie of Oneonta; four grandsons, Richard Bouck Jr. of Ilion, Christopher Richie of Gaithersburg, Md., Keith Richie of Rochester and James Richie of Oak Harbor, Wash.; a great-grandson, Zachary Bouck and a step great-grandson, Blake Voorhees; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Kinney and John Joseph Kinney; and two sisters, Betty Willman and Mary George. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 9:15 a.m. from the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer and at 10 a.m. from St. Francis de Sales Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor. Interment will take place in St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 5-8 p.m. Members of the Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post 25 Ladies Auxiliary are asked to meet at the funeral home Tuesday evening at 6 for services. All memorial contributions may be made to the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department or to MOVAC. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
