Obituary of Carl Waterbury
Navy veteran of World War II Carl W. Waterbury Sr., 76, of 347 Pleasant Ave., Herkimer, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. He was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Herkimer, the son of the late Willard and Edith (Baulig) Waterbury. Carl was a graduate of West Canada High School and lived most of his life in the Herkimer area. His marriage to Helen S. Bokowski took place on June 11, 1949, at St. Mary's Ukrainian Church in Herkimer. The couple shared a devoted union of nearly 50 years until the passing of Mrs. Waterbury on May 27, 1999. Mr. Waterbury was a World War II Navy veteran. For 41 years until his retirement, Carl was employed at the former Chicago Pneumatic in Utica where he held the position of general foreman. Mr. Waterbury was a member of the Church of Saints Anthony and Joseph in Herkimer and a former member of the Herkimer Knights of Columbus. He is survived by a son, Carl J. Waterbury and wife Lauri of Herkimer; two daughters, Sharon Hovanec and husband Joe of South Carolina and Susan Waterbury of Herkimer; two brothers, Lee Waterbury and wife Patricia of Ilion and Ernie Waterbury and wife Patti of Schuyler; two sisters, Joyce Reardon and husband Doug of Herkimer and Joan Bennett of Herkimer; seven grandchildren, Cross Nicastro of Herkimer and Carl Nicastro of Frankfort, Christin Christensen and husband Christopher of Poland, Carl, Jennifer and LeAnn Waterbury of Herkimer and Joe Hovanec of South Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Catherine Christensen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by in-laws, Ann Bokowski of Van Hornesville, Geri Bokowski of Herkimer, Mary Bokowski of Herkimer, George and Mary Jane Bokowski of Florida, Gloria and Merle Jones of Cedarville and Marilyn Ackler of Florida. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. from the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, with the Rev. Robert S. Shinos, pastor of the Church of Saints Anthony and Joseph, officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Thursd ay, Dec. 11, from 5-8 p.m. All memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
