Obituary of William Wren
Mr. William J. "Bill" Wren, Sr., age 78, of 8 Warren Rd., Mohawk, beloved husband of Helen F. (Klock) Wren entered into eternal rest on Thursday morning, July 31, 2003 in Valley Health Services, Herkimer surrounded with the love and support of his family. William was born on December 22, 1924 in Little Falls a son of the late Patrick J. and Elizabeth (Bunce) Wren and received his education at St. Mary's Academy in Little Falls. He has resided in Mohawk for 49 years. Mr. Wren was predeceased by his first wife Rosemary Ward Wren. On June 24, 1950 Bill was joined in marriage with the former Helen F. Klock in St. Mary's Church in Little Falls; throughout the 53 years of their union, Bill and Helen have shared an abiding love and respect for one another and a deep commitment to their marriage and to raising their eight children. He was last employed as a supervisor for the New York State Thruway Authority and retired in 1982 after numerous years of dedicated service. He was of the Catholic Faith. Bill sincerely dedicated himself to his hometown of Mohawk and its surrounding communities. These deep roots led to many relationships that he truly cherished. He provided conscientious and loyal service to the Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years and served as chief at one time. Mr. Wren was a community-minded individual with a strong sense of social responsibility: he was a member of the New York State Fire Association where he served as president, was a founding member of MOVAC, was an American Red Cross EMT Instructor and at one time served as chairman of the Herkimer County Disaster Committee. In 1968, Bill received the New York State Fireman's Hat's off award for saving a man's life. In his personal life, Bill was a family man who derived great pride and happiness from his loved ones. Throughout his life, he made a strong impact on other people, both within his family circle and beyond. In his leisure time, he enjoyed woodworking in his garage and was known by many for his unique wood creations. He leaves his family and friends countless, beautiful and inspiring memories of their association with him.Bill's survivors include his loving wife, Helen of Mohawk, three daughters, Barbara and William Lennox, Janet Wren and Kirk Marshall, Marcia and Kyle Kenyon, five sons, William and Barbara Wren, Allen Wren, Kevin and Cindy Wren, Brian and Becky Wren, and Michael and Susan Wren, one brother, James Wren and wife Geraldine, two sisters, Dorothy Ward and husband William and Donna Gardinier and husband Burrell, eleven cherished grandchildren, Matthew, Marlie and Ben Malowski, Daniel and Adrienne Michaud, Keith and Shineigh Wren, Nathan and Meghan Wren and Devin and Kiley Wren. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by eleven brothers and sisters, Catherine Bunce, Mary Margaret Wren, Josephine Wren Petrie, Elizabeth Wren Lassell, Marguerite Loefler, Daniel Wren, Frances Miller, Patrick Wren, Martin Wren, Eileen Moody, and Thomas Wren. Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main St. between Ilion and Frankfort (894-8000) on Friday (today) from 5- 8 p.m. There will be an hour of visitation on Saturday morning, Aug. 2 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Bill's funeral will commence on Saturday morning, at 10:30 am from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered thence to Blessed Sacrament Church, Main St., Mohawk where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am by the Rev. Mark Cunningham. Final interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of floral offerings, kindly consider contributions in honor of Bill to MOVAC or to the Exempt Fireman's Benevolent Association of Mohawk. Members of the Exempt Firemans Benelovent Association Incorporated of Mohawk are asked to gather in the funeral home organization room at 6 p.m. this evening to pay their respects. The family extends its appreciation to Bassett Healthcare of Herkimer, Valley Health Services, and St. Elizabeth's Medical Center for all of the tireless care and effort given to Bill and his family.
