Obituary of Regina Guiney

Mrs. Regina A. Guiney, age 66, of 67 Petrie St., Little Falls, passed away on Sunday morning, October 20, 2002 after a brief illness. Her passing occurred at Little Falls Hospital with the comfort of her family at her bedside. Regina was born on May 11, 1936 in Little Falls a daughter of the late Victor and Grace (Maxwell) Carney. She graduated from the Herkimer High School Class of 1954 and became a registered nurse upon graduating from St. Elizabeth?s School of Nursing in 1957. She was a lifelong area resident. November 30, 1957 marked the beginning of a relationship founded upon love and respect when she was united in marriage with Walter W. Guiney at St. Mary?s Church in Little Falls. Throughout their almost 45-year union Regina and Walter shared many pleasurable moments together. Regina was employed by Little Falls Hospital for 40 years and served as Director of Nursing from 1985-2000. She truly enjoyed her work and her fellow employees. She possessed a strong work ethic and displayed a sincere mannerism to her coworkers. She also served on the board of health in Little Falls and was affiliated with the diabetes and laryngectomy associations. As a civic- minded woman she considered donating her time and efforts as a most significant priority in her life. She was on the Board of Directors of Folts Homes and BOCES. She was a communicant of Holy Family Parish and her faith was very important to her. In her family circle, she was responsible, conscientious and a remarkably supportive wife, mother and grandmother. Regina was a family woman whose priorities in life began with her loved ones and she deeply adored her grandchildren. Her many friends and acquaintances will always remember her unselfish nature and generous heart. She is survived by her beloved husband of 44 years, Walter of the home address, three beloved sons and their wives, Walt and Jane Guiney of Herkimer, Michael and Karen Guiney of Woodbourne, NY and Rich and Cindy Guiney of Little Falls, a loving daughter and her hsuband, Mary Lynne and Ron Zawtocki, a brother and sister in law, Jack and Louise Carney of Herkimer, three sisters and two brothers in law, Bea and Gino Nunno of New Hartford, Jane and Joe DiMura of Valatie, NY and Carol Carney of Little Falls, eight adored grandchildren, Ron and Amanda Zawtocki, Elaine Zawtocki, Ryan and Chad Guiney, Sarah and Rebekah Guiney and Kyle Guiney, two aunts, Alice Knutti of Utica and Josephine Maxwell of Herkimer and a special cousin, Barbara Guiney of Little Falls. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members. She leaves many wonderful memories in the hearts of all of her family friends and co workers. The family invites relatives and friends to pay their respects at the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 from 4-8p.m. Regina's funeral will commence from the chapel of the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 10:15 where prayer will be offered by Sister Marilyn Hayes, CSJ and 11 am from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Streets, Little Falls where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Charles R. Celeste, pastor of the church. Funeral procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer where she will be laid to rest. The family would like to offer their thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Little Falls Hospital for their endless support, compassion and care given to Regina. Remembrances in honor of Regina may be made to the Little Falls Hospital Development Fund, American Cancer Society, or to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
