Obituary of Walter Haytko

Mr. Walter Haytko, age 85, of 240 E. Steele St., Herkimer passed away on Friday morning, November 15, 2002 at Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion. Mr. Haytko was born in New York City on August 27, 1917 the son of the late Peter and Eva (Levick) Haytko. He received his education in New York City Schools and moved to Herkimer after he joined in marriage with the former Wanda Sochacki on May 26, 1945 in the St. Joseph Rectory. He served his country with the U.S. Army enlisting on March 7, 1942 and was honorably discharged on October 7, 1945 as Technician 4th Grade. He was last employed with UNIVAC in Ilion retiring after 25 years of service and was also at one time employed with the Hamilton Digital Company in Utica. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph?s Church, Herkimer and was an avid card and coin collector. He leaves a son, Robert Haytko and wife Peggy of Cicero, NY, two daughters, Charlene Jagiello and husband Chester of Utica and Suzanne Ferrera and husband Mark of Plainsboro, NJ; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella Mannis, Ann Mearns and Mildred Zarubnicky. There are no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence this morning, November 16, 2002 at 10 am from the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph?s with the Rev. Robert Shinos, Pastor officiating. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where committal will take place.
