Obituary of Emma Matthews
Mrs. Emma Matthews, of Rockton Plaza Apartments, Little Falls passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 17, 2002 in Martin Luther Nursing Home, Clinton. She was born on June 2, 1902 in Long Island City, New York, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Cervany) Munder and received her education in New York City Schools. She has resided in Little Falls since 1961. She was united in marriage with Joseph J. Matthews on November 26, 1924 in Long Island City. Mr. Matthews passed away on April 9, 1960. She was last employed as the rectory housekeeper at St. Joseph's Church in Little Falls and at one time was a phone attendant for the Enea Funeral Home. She was a communicant of Holy Family Parish and its' rosary society, a former member of the Rock City Senior Citizens and was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother. She is survived by a beloved son, Charles T. Matthews and wife Maureen of Cold Spring Harbor, NY; two loving daughters, Elizabeth A. Foster and husband Kenneth of Sauquoit and Margaret M. Wyman and husband William of LaPlata, MD., ten cherished grandchildren, and eleven adored great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Retired State Supreme Court Judge, Fred J. Munder. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls on Sunday evening, from 6-8. The funeral will begin from the chapel of the funeral home on Monday morning, October 21, 2002 at 10:15 where prayer will be offered by Sister Marilyn Hayes, CSJ, and 11 am from the Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Streets where A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Charles R. Celeste, pastor. Emma will be laid to rest along side her husband Joseph in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, on Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. Kindly consider remembrances in honor of Emma to the Holy Family Parish Restoration Fund; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral parlor.
