Obituary of Sam Spadea

Mr. Sam Spadea, 82, of 230 West Smith St., Herkimer, passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at his home. He was born on July 31, 1920 in Gasperina, Italy, son of the late Joseph and Maria (Macrina) Spadea and received his education in schools in Italy and Herkimer. Sam was united in marriage with Carmela "Millie" Ruffo in 1948 at St. Mary's Church in Little Falls. Millie passed away on Sept. 13, 2000. Sam was a veteran of the United States Army and served our country during World War II. He was honorably discharged and was recipient of an American Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and a World War II Victory Medal. He was last employed with and was a member of the carpenters union in Utica. Sam was a kind and gentle man who spent most of his leisure time frequenting malls, the casino, and Vernon Downs. He is survived by his brother, Adam Spadea and wife Jean of Herkimer; a sister-in-law, Annette Ruffo of Little Falls; nieces Robin Whitcomb of Little Falls, Mary Nikurs of California, Nancy Hand of Herkimer, and Lisa Mahoney of New Hartford; nephews Joseph Spadea of Ilion and Dan Ruffo of Little Falls; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Dominick Spadea. Funeral services will be held at the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. with Deacon Joseph DeLorenzo officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday (tonight) from 5-8 p.m.
