Obituary of Arlene Williams

Ilion: Arlene E. (Doxtader) Williams, age 79, of Ilion, a lifelong valley resident, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, March 30, 2010 at Mohawk Valley Healthcare (formerly Mohawk Valley Nursing Home) in Ilion. Arlene was born on September 11, 1930, in Dolgeville, a daughter of Mayme (Weber) and Carl Doxtader. She attended Stratford Central School. Arlene was united in marriage to Kenneth R. Williams, who passed away on February 17, 2005; together, they raised five beloved sons. She was a homemaker and a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Arlene was proud of her family and was very supportive of their endeavors in sports, school, and their journeys in life. Arlene loved taking long rides, particularly with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing bingo, and was, at one time, a successful Avon Sales Representative. Survivors include her five beloved sons: David "Dave" Williams and his wife Kathy of Ilion, Donald "Don" Williams and his wife Vicky of Ilion, Mark Williams and his wife Sharon of Hartwick, Andy Williams of Mohawk, and David Strafel and his wife Mary of North Carolina; nine cherished grandchildren: Chris Williams and his wife Sarah, Amy and Kevin Marriott, Matt and Lindsey Williams, Shauna and Cory Bishop, Kyle, Karli, Alexandra, Quinton, and Rachel Williams; three great-grandchildren: Reagan, Kingston, and Molly; a special niece: Cheryl Brown and her husband, Tim; and her nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is also survived by her in-laws: Kay and Bill Hogue of North Carolina. Arlene was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; a sister, Shirley; her brothers, Carl, Jr. and Donald; and a sister-in-law, Edith Hotaling. Thre are no public calling hours. In keeping with Arlene's wishes, her body is being donated to the Anatomical Gift Program at University Medical School, Syracuse. Interment of her remains will take place at a later date and time to be announced. In lieu of floral offerings, those wishing to do so may consider memorial contributions in Arlene's name to the Quinton Williams Fund, c/o M & T Bank, Ilion and Frankfort Branches. Donations will also be accepted at the funeral home. The Williams family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the third and fourth floor staffs of the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home for the care and kindness shown to Arlene.
