Obituary of Virginia Covais

MOHAWK - Virginia N. Covais, age 94, formerly of Mohawk and Burlington Flatts, died on Friday, April 2, 2010, at Masonic Care Community, Utica. She was born on March 26, 1916, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Anthony and Diana (Curreri) Sabella, and attended NYC Schools. On June 13, 1937, she was married to George D. Covais in South Ozone Park, NY. He died on January 5, 1993. At one time she was a seamstress employed at the Smart Shop in Cooperstown, NY. She was a lifelong seamstress and designer. Virginia was a devoted housewife and mother. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk. Survivors include her loving children; one daughter, Annette Marro and former son-in-law, Nicholas Marro, of Ilion; three sons and daughters-in-laws, Carmine and Joan Covais, of VA, Anthony and Barbara Covais, of FL, and George and May Covais, of FL; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony Sabella and his wife, Gail, of Norwich, NY, and Michael Sabella, of West Babylon, NY; one sister, Betty Low, of Albany; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Angelo and Barney Sabella; and one sister, Angelina Feola. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the Graves-Applegate-Day Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, and 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, E. Main St., Mohawk, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Mark Cunningham, Sacramental Minister, assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director. Burial will be in Burlington Green Cemetery, Town of Burlington, NY. Calling hours are Monday, April 5, 2010, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the funeral home. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Envelopes are available at the Graves-Applegate-Day Funeral Home.
