Obituary of Rose Wiernicki

Ilion: Rose (Jones) Cookinham-Wiernicki died on April 6, 2010 due to complications of diabetes. She was surrounded by her loving family. Rose was a former resident of the Prindle apartments in Ilion, NY. Rose was born on April 8, 1920 in the town of Trenton. She was the daughter of Harrison and Grace (Ernst) Jones, both deceased. Rose grew up and attended school in Remsen, NY. Rose was very proud to serve in the Home Guard in the 1940s. She worked at Agusta Knitting Mill in Utica, NY, and was a waitress in Old Forge, NY. She married Peter Cookinham of Poughkeepsie, NY (deceased). She worked at UNIVAC in Utica,NY and married Stanley Wiernicki in 1962. After working many years, she retired from UNIVAC to raise her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; her sister, Sara (Sis) Doyle of Rochester, NY; and a daughter-in-law, Jackie Cookinham of Utica, NY. She is survived by her beloved sons and daughter-in-law: James Cookinham of Forestport, NY, and Larry and Judy Cookinham of Ilion, NY; her sisters: Marion Franklin of Poland, NY, Ada Wallace of Nevada, Jean Bell, and Maurey and Joyce O’Brien of Portland, OR. Rose had 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Rose will be remembered as a strong and caring person, a good wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. We will all remember her great cooking. Calling hours will be on Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 4-7 pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, between Ilion and Frankfort. Pastor Joe Jansen of New Life Church, Herkimer, NY, will conduct her funeral service at 11 am on Friday, April 9, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Holy Spirit Polish National Catholic Cemetery, Little Falls. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in her name.
