Obituary of Edna Decker

ILION - Edna Elizabeth (Osterhout) Decker, age 90, formerly of 116 E. Main St., Ilion, passed away on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, NY. She was born on January 27, 1920, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Bert and Ida (Morton) Osterhout. On June 15, 1941, she was married to Otto C. Decker at the Osterhout family homestead, Town of Warren, by Rev. George Mc Cleave. Edna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ilion and a past choir member of the Richfield Springs Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Decker was an honorary life member of the NYS Sheriffs Assoc., and a past member of the Ilion American Legion Post 920 Auxiliary. Edna enjoyed traveling for many years, especially vacationing in Sylvan Beach. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Baylis, of Ilion; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald C. Decker and Grace Banick-Decker, of Herkimer; two granddaughters, Michele Miller, of Sloansville, and Sherry Baylis, of Ilion; one grandson, Ronald D. Decker, of Herkimer; one granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Decker, of Herkimer; one great-grandson, Ian Wernicki, of Ilion; a special niece, Jeanne Morris, of Sharpsburg, GA; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Gladys Osterhout; and two sisters, Mary Castle and Myrtle Vandewerker. Funeral services will be held 5 p.m., Sunday, April 11, 2010, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Rev. Victor McKusick, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Ilion. Interment will be in Springfield Center Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 3-5 p.m. prior to the funeral home service. The family wishes to thank the fourth floor staff at Bassett Medical Center for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis de Sales School of Herkimer, NY, or MOVAC. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. The Decker family has entrusted all service arrangements and supervision to their family Funeral Director, Don Applegate, at Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home.
