Obituary of Kirk Marshall
ONEIDA/MOHAWK/OLD FORGE-Kirk O Marshall, 50, of Lake Road, Oneida, formerly of Mohawk and Old Forge passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 13, 2010. His passing occurred in Faxton/St. Lukes Healthcare, New Hartford having the love and support of his family by his side.
He was born on June 30, 1959 in Rochester, NY son of Robert and Jane (OConnell) Marshall and educated in the town of Webb schools. He spent his childhood in Brockport and Old Forge. After graduation from High School he ran a successful woodworking business The Adirondack Stripper. After an injury in 1984, leaving him a quadriplegic, he went on to live a very active life. He worked at RCIL as a disability rights advocate for many years. There, he met the love of his life, Janet Wren, and enjoyed 23 wonderful years together. Kirk was a fierce advocate for people in need. He believed in everyones basic right to live their life as independently as they choose. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving family and friends; Janet Wren; his children: Jennifer Marshall, Elizabeth Marshall, Daniel Michaud and girlfriend Alexsa, and Adrienne Watson and husband Robert; siblings: Douglas Marshall and wife Christina, Brian Marshall and wife Barbara, Sheryl Kendrick and husband Scott; several beloved extended Wren family members; a sister in law: Karen Marshall; his beloved pets, Reba and Jetta; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and numerous dear and extraordinary friends. He was preceded in death by a beloved brother, Scott Marshall.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Ilion and Frankfort, 894-8000 Friday, April 23, 2010 from 4-7 p.m. Kirks memorial service will commence at 11 am Saturday, April 24th from the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Brian Engel, pastor of Mohawk Reformed Church, officiating. Interment will take place privately. Please consider donations to the Mohawk Reformed Church, in lieu of flowers.
The family is deeply grateful to all the doctors involved in caring for Kirks needs and during his long stay at Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare; especially Dr. Charles Eldredge and his medical team. Also, a heartfelt thank you is extended to the entire staff from housekeeping to the doctors, nurses and other staff at the hospital for their tender love and care; every single person that was involved with Kirks care had a wonderful attitude and great disposition. Warm gratitude is also offered to the Critical Care Unit of Faxton-St. Lukes, the staff on the fifth floor and the dialysis unit. The family is being served by funeral director, Daniel J. Enea.
