Obituary of James Sweet

HERKIMER-Mr. James Donald “Don” Sweet, age 72 of 111 Sherwood Acres, Dr., entered into eternal rest on Monday evening, May 3, 2010 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown following a brief illness. He had the love and support of his wife and sister in law at his side. He was born in Malone on December 12, 1937, son of the late James D. and Phyllis (Eagan) Sweet and graduated from Chateaugay High School and attended Petty Prep School along with Ryder College. On September 14, 1963, he was united in marriage with Kathleen L. Lynch in Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk; a union filled with friendship and love lasting 46 years. Mr. Sweet was a United States Veteran having served with the Army and received an honorable discharge. Don was proud of the 34 years of employment he held with Herkimer County Trust Company which is now M & T Bank. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his co-workers and the relationships formed with his customers. He was of the Methodist Faith. Don loved life, loved people and loved his family. He will be sorely missed. Survivors include his wife Kathleen at home; in laws: Patricia Edick and husband Larry of Newcomb, James Lynch and wife Maureen of Newcomb, Daniel Lynch and wife Joy of Raleigh, NC, and MaryJane Lynch of Freeville; nieces and nephews and families: Larry Edick of Georgia, Sheree Madison and husband Jim of Hudson Falls, Sue Griffis and husband Phil of Saratoga, Scott Edick of Saratoga, Craig Lynch of Raleigh, NC and Brent Lynch also of Raleigh; one aunt, four cousins and many dear friends. Don’s funeral will commence at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010 from Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2-4 p.m., prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the funeral home. His burial will take place at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2010 in Eastside Cemetery, Chateaugay, NY. In lieu of floral tributes, kindly consider memorial offerings to a charity of your choice. A large selection of envelopes is available at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the Intensive Care Unit, doctors, nurses and staff of Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown for their tender love and care during this difficult time. The family is being cared for by funeral director, Daniel J. Enea.
