Obituary of Ingeburg Scherneck

ST. JOHNSVILLE- Mrs. Ingeburg J. Scherneck, 86, of Failing Ave. entered into eternal rest in the presence of her family on May 20, 2010 at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born on November 24, 1923 in Struppen, Germany, daughter of the late Paul and Martha Pötzschke. She was united in marriage to Siegfried Scherneck in Germany in 1945. They were married for over 60 years until his passing on November 17, 2007. The sun always seemed to shine when Ingeburg was present. She had a smile that could light up a room. Friends and strangers alike would instinctively open their hearts to her. She was a warm, kind-hearted woman who would sacrifice all things for her family. Having lived through the worst of times, she always looked for the best in people. Ingeburg loved her German origins and German traditions. She loved listening to and singing German Lieder. During her younger years, she was exceptionally light on her feet and enjoyed dancing. She enjoyed walking and the outdoors, and faithfully walked her son and daughter to and from grade school every day, rain or shine. She loved the beauty of her flower garden and crocheted and knitted many colorful pillow covers and blankets. All who knew were touched by her light and goodness. Survivors include her two sons: Kim Scherneck of St. Johnsville and Lutz Scherneck and his wife Darlene of Dolgeville; her daughters, Elke Reitz and her husband Lothar of Dresden, Germany, and Michele Scherneck of Middlebury, CT; her three grandchildren: Sylvia Rödel, Torsten Reitz, and Ilse Scherneck, and her four great grandchildren: Aline and Luisa Rödel, Zavia Jaime, and Bruno Reitz. She was predeceased by her sister Margarethe Pötzschke. The Scherneck family would like to thank the staff of the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their kindness and care at the end of our mother’s life. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY.
