Obituary of Henry Pape

MOHAWK - Henry D. Pape, age 80, of 35 Church St., Mohawk, died on Sunday, May 23, 2010, at Folts Home, Herkimer. He was born on March 6, 1930, in Utica, NY, the son of Henry and Clara (Schneider) Pape. Mr. Pape was a graduate of Proctor High School in 1947 and attended Utica College. On June 30, 1973, he was married to Bessie (Moxham) Clapper. She died on March 17, 2004. He was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service, Utica, for 34 years, retiring in 1988. Henry was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church and its Bible Study. He was also Past Commander of Sons of American Legion Post 25, Mohawk, member of the Ilion Elks Lodge #1444 and member of the APWU (American Postal Workers Union). Survivors include two daughters, Sister Marlene Diana Pape, of Rochester, NY, and Maryanne Sangiacomo, of Guilderland, NY; one stepdaughter, Sharron Hale and her husband, James, of Sauquoit; three stepsons, Richard Clapper and his wife, Donna, of Mohawk, Chappie Clapper and his wife, Sharon, of Mohawk, and Douglas Clapper and his wife, Nanette, of Phoenix, NY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Rodger and Mary Pape, of Whitesboro, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Marlene Ann Pape; a stepson, Frederick Clapper; and two stepdaughters, Beatrice Tansley and Shirley Valentine. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, May 28, 2010, at Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, NY, with Rev. Brian Engel, Pastor of the Mohawk Reformed Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mohawk Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday, May 27, 2010, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Sons of the American Legion Post 25 of Mohawk service will be held 6 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the St. Elizabeth Medical Center ICU staff and the Special Unit staff. The family also thanks the First Floor staff at Folts Home for their outstanding care of Henry and the compassion shown to the family. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Reformed Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. All funeral service arrangements and supervision are entrusted to Don Applegate, Funeral Director.
