Obituary of David Phalen

Mohawk: Mr. David S. Phalen, 68, of Mohawk, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Little Falls Hospital. Mr. Phalen was born on August 17, 1941 in Herkimer, a son of Paul and Lorna (Leonard) Phalen. David was a graduate of Mohawk High School and spent most of his life in the Mohawk area. He married Frances Moynihan on February 12, 1966 in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. David enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1964. He was employed in the maintenance department of Mohawk Homestead, Mohawk. Prior to that, he worked at St. Luke’s Hospital, New Hartford. He was a faithful member of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. David is survived by his beloved wife, Frances; a daughter, Debra Phalen and Bill Buddenhagen of Chesapeake, VA; two adored grandchildren: Mark Walts and Adam Walts and his wife Toni; a great-grandchild, Adam Walts, Jr.; three brothers: John Phalen and his wife Jean of Little River, SC, Michael Phalen and his wife Barbara of East Herkimer; and Thomas Phalen and his wife Eileen of Mohawk; and two sisters: Lois Nevils and her husband John of Swampscott, MA, and Kathryn Knewasser of Mohawk; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. David was known as a handyman and could repair just about anything around the house. He loved to putter in his spare time. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 5-7 pm. The Reverend Mark Cunningham will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 11:00 am in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. He will be interred at a later date at the convenience of the family. The family is being served by Harry J. Enea, Jr, Funeral Director.
