Obituary of Carolyn Silvernail

Mrs. Carolyn D. Silvernail 81 of 30 Beaver Street Dolgeville, died Tuesday June 15, 2010 at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown where she had been a patient for the past three weeks. She was born in Albany, New York on March 9, 1929 the daughter of Charles and Ida (Orth) Desch and was a graduate of Albany High School. She continued her education as a graduate of Ithaca College with a BS degree in Music in 1951. Her marriage to John D. Silvernail took place on February 3, 1951 in Albany. They celebrated 59 years of marriage this past February. Carolyn’s career in education began in the Stratford Central School system, first as a Music teacher, then a kindergarten teacher and she also taught home economics while at Stratford. For over 30 years she taught 1st grade at Dolgeville Central School, and prior to her retirement she taught Special Education at Dolgeville. While teaching she also returned to Oneonta State Teachers College earning her Masters degree in 1966. She was a member of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church, the Auskerada- Maquaes- Rock City Chapter # 204 Order of Easter n Star. Carolyn also taught piano lesson in home for many years. Surviving her is her husband John, a son Gary Silvernail of Dolgeville, her daughter and her husband Kathy and Thomas Avellino of Woodstock, Vt., a Granddaughter Heidi Silvernail of Providence, RI, and a Grandson Douglas John Avellino of Woodstock, Vt. Her Brothers Noel Desch of Ithaca, Charles Desch of Albany and Kenneth Desch of Chicago. In keeping with her wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services. In Lieu of flowers, Carolyn may be remembered through a memorial to the Dolgeville United Methodist Church.
