Mr. Benedict V. “Bennie” Prestigiacomo 85 of 31 Elm Street Dolgeville died Wednesday June 16, 2010 at the home of his son and daughter in law Vincent and Susan Prestigiacomo 10 Van Buren Street, with whom he was residing. Bennie was born in Dolgeville on January 6, 1925 the son of Stephen and Venzenzo (DePiazzo) Prestigiacomo and was educated in Dolgeville schools. A Veteran of WW II he served honorably in the United State Army from March 24, 1943 until his discharge on January 27, 1946. He served with the 43rd Depot Supply Squadron 43rd Air Depot Group, station in Rhineland. He was awarded the following medals for his service, EAME SV Medal, Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal. His marriage to Vera Simpson took place on April 22, 1949 in Dolgeville. Mrs. Prestigiacomo predeceased him on April 30, 2008. Ben was employed as foreman in the cutting room by the former Daniel Green Company of Dolgeville for 47 years retiring from there when they moved from the village. He was a faithful communicant of St. Joseph’s Church Dolgeville, where he was a member of the church choir, a Past Chief and member of the Dolgeville Fire Department, a member of the Exempt & Benevolent Fireman’s association, he served as a Little League Coach, and was an avid bowler belonging to many leagues. His affiliations also included the East Canada Valley Vision, and he was a former Co-owner of the Dolgeville Bowling Center. He personally enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and traveling around town in his scooter. He is survived by his sons and their wives, Vincent and Susan Prestigiacomo, Barry and Debbie Prestigiacomo both of Dolgeville, his daughters and their husbands Joanne and Terry Williams of Dolgeville, and Bonnie and Doug Schroeder of Columbus, Ohio his Brothers Sam Prestigiacomo of Geneva, New York,and Joseph and his wife Sue Prestigiacomo of CA., his grandchildren Heather Tuthill and her husband Derrek, Corinne and her husband Joe Picataggi, Trevor Williams and his companion Donna Doerrer, Maria Prestigiacomo and her fiancé Randy Randall, Theresa Prestigiacomo and her companion Damon Daukontas, Stephen Prestigiacomo and his Fiancée’ Freddie Hull, Anthony and his wife Kimberly Prestigiacomo, Joseph Prestigiacomo and his fiancée’ Brittany Cerasi, Christopher Schroeder, and Brittany Schroeder his great Grandchildren Joey, William, Andrew, Isabella, Theodore, Nora, Maryia, Hanna and Chiara., also Nieces and Nephews. He was predeceased by his Brother Frank and his sister Antoinette Bush. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday June 19, 2010 at 10 AM at St. Joseph’s Church on Helmer Avenue Dolgeville. Rev. William A. Gorman, pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will follow with Military Honors in the Dolgeville Cemetery. Calling hours are on Friday from 5-8PM at the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville.
