Obituary of John Muscarello

ST. JOHNSVILLE- Mr. John J. Muscarello, 90, of County Hwy 119, entered into eternal rest on July 14, 2010 at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born on March 23, 1920 in a predominantly Italian section of Elizabeth, NJ known as Peterstown, son of the late Michael and Bridget (Patalina) Muscarello. John’s father passed away at the age of 35, about 9 months after John was born. His mother remarried Nicholas Merlo. On October 24, 1960 he was united in marriage with Emily Kehm in Elizabeth, NJ. Their happy marriage lasted until her passing on May 21, 2005. John quit school early to help support his family. He was a member of the US Army Air Force from August 14, 1942- Sept. 2, 1945. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and also the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged. He worked as a butcher in Michael’s Butcher Shop in Elizabeth, NJ before and after the service. Around 1965 John changed jobs to work for Beecham Products, a pharmaceutical company in Cranford, NJ. He did custodial work cleaning up the production lines. Around 1985 he retired and moved to Merritt Island, FL. In 2004 he moved to St. Johnsville and lived with Wolfgang and Maureen Dinges. John was a very caring person. He was always willing to help someone in need. He loved everyone as well as all living things. He was fun loving and had a great sense of humor. His favorite sport was baseball. He loved music. He loved the beach, both the Jersey Shore and later in Florida. Above all he loved horse racing. He prided himself in working hard all of his life. He always loved to dance. He would go to Cruisers south of Friendswood, TX with his nephew and niece Rheiner and Dorina every Sunday afternoon to listen to some Texas Blues. He has won the hearts of many with his dancing and his personality. At the St. Johnsville Nursing Home he was known as “Happy Feet”. He was a good son, husband, stepfather, uncle and friend. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by his stepson Harold Wolf and his daughters Regina and Claudia of Germany, his step brother Angelo Merlo, his wife Kaye and their daughter Jeanne of FL : his step brother Nick Merlo of FL; his step sister Rosie Merlo of FL; and his nephews Wolfgang Dinges and his wife Maureen of St. Johnsviile and Rheiner Dinges and his wife Dorina of TX. He was predeceased by his brothers Samuel, Michael, Arthur, Christopher, Frank and Joseph, Teresa and his stepsister Carmella. In keeping with John’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 10am on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at West St. Johnsville Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. The family is being cared for by the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville.
