Obituary of Edward Becker

ILION - Edward “John” D. Becker, age 84, of 545 Spohn Rd., Ilion, passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare, New Hartford, NY. He was born on March 23, 1926 in Sharon Springs, NY, the son of Oscar and Ella May (Hagabone) Becker. On November 22, 1958 he was married to Victoria “Vicky” Boyer in Melrose, PA. Ed “John” was employed as a truck driver and later foreman at Empire Recycling Co., Utica. Survivors include his wife Victoria “Vicky”; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Nancy and Jim Cotton, of Town of Columbia, Barbara Irizarry, of Clinton, Sharon and Gary Rogers, of Ilion, Ella May Becker and her partner Jackie Gardner, of Mohawk, and Fred Howard, of S. Carolina; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Edward and Julie Brewer, of Ilion, Carol Becker, of Mohawk, Richard and Kathy Brewer, of Herkimer, George and Roseann Becker, of Mohawk, Jonathan Becker, of Town of Litchfield, Edward D. Becker Jr., of Fayettville; several grandchildren, including two grandsons he helped raise and loved like sons, Michael and David Newberry; several great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Leona Cook, of Ft. Plain, NY, and Elsie And David Holiday, of Florida; one brother and sister-in-law, Delbert and Betty Becker, of Palatine Bridge, NY: and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two sons, John and Edwin Becker; a daughter, Earline Howard; two sisters, Virginia Bennett and Mabel Shepard; and one brother, Oscar Becker Jr. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Rev. Christopher Schumske, Pastor of the Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church, of Herkimer, officiating. Interment will be in Frankfort Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 11, 2010, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., prior to the funeral home service. The Becker family has entrusted all funeral and burial arrangements to their long time family Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
