Obituary of Margaret Bocchino

Ilion/Frankfort/Utica: Margaret “Peg” Rosalie Coupe Bocchino, formerly of Ilion and most recently residing on Mohawk Street in Utica with her daughter and son in law, Kathleen and Joseph Aiello passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010 in St. Luke’s Home, Utica. Peg was born in Frankfort on September 21, 1927, daughter of the late John A. and Margaret E. (Fullem) McCann. She attended Annunciation Catholic School and later graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in Utica in 1946. On June 2, 1950, she married William C. Coupe, Jr. at Sts. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church in Frankfort, a loving union of 35 years until Mr. Coupe’s untimely death in 1985. Her working career started with the New York Telephone Company as a switchboard operator prior to the introduction of the dial telephone. She suspended her career to raise her family of seven children, but later returned as a receptionist and switchboard operator at Mohawk Valley General Hospital for several years, and later worked in the admissions office there. In 1989, she married Andy Bocchino. Peg volunteered for a time with Catholic Charities and Hospice, combining her strong spirit and unyielding compassion for others, which she displayed in every aspect of her long life. She will be remembered by her friends and family for her caring and giving nature, her kindness, and cheerful attitude, her deep humility, and her faith in Christ with whom she trusted to guide her and her family through the challenging moments of life.
