Obituary of Claire Carr

FRANKFORT - Mrs. Claire “Claire Jo” J. Carr, 88, of Berberick Rd., entered into eternal rest on September 12, 2010, at her residence, with her loving family at her side. She was born on May 1, 1922, in New York City, the daughter of the late Albert G.D. and Mary Agnes (Leahy) Hubbard, and attended Hunter College High School, Utica College and Syracuse University, where she obtained a Master’s Degree. On June 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to Everett Quentin Carr in New York City. Their loving union lasted until his passing on July 22, 1987. She was a teacher at Mount Markham School in West Winfield. Later, she assisted her husband Quentin at Herkimer BOCES Planetarium with Program Development. Most recently, she was a Docent Coordinator at Munson Williams Proctor Institute in Utica. She was a Lector and past Eucharist Minister, member of Ultreya, past Chairman of Herkimer County Office of the Aging, Master at Litchfield Grange, and avid swimmer at Utica YMCA for many years, and enjoyed reading. Survivors include her daughter, Gabrielle Carr, with whom she resided; her son, Christopher Carr and his wife, Karen, of Delray Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Jared Sessum and Michelle Quinones, Daniel and Bianca Sessum, and Katherine, Zachary and Alexandra Carr; three sisters, Edna Quinn, of Largo, FL, Ann Marie Romano, of St. Petersburg, FL, and Elaine Calvey, of Long Island, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, John Hubbard. The family will receive relatives and friends from 12 noon – 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2010, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion. A Prayer Service will be held at 1:15 p.m. at the funeral home with a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at the Church of the Annunciation with the Very Rev. Anthony Barratt officiating. Burial with take place at Cedarville Cemetery at the convenience of the family, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Everett Quentin Carr. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Cedarville Volunteer Fire Dept. and Ambulance, or HOSPICE. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. The Carr family has entrusted all funeral and burial arrangements to Clair’s friend, Don Applegate, Funeral Director.
