Obituary of Amelia Herold

ST. JOHNSVILLE- Mrs. Amelia J. Herold, 95, of E. Main St, entered into eternal rest on September 15, 2010 at her residence. She was born on September 29, 1914 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Clement and Eva (Kovacs) Damin. On August 21, 1942 she was united in marriage with Gustave Herold. Their union lasted almost 42 years until his passing in 1985. Amelia was born and spent her youngest years in Herkimer. Later on her parents bought a dairy farm in Fulton County which is still operated today by a nephew. After she finished high school she worked in New York City where she met Gus. They lived in Norristown, PA for many years. He was a chef and she stayed home tending to her rose garden, sewing and knitting. They entertained and they went out dancing frequently since they both enjoyed it. When Gus passed away in 1985 she sold their home and moved back to the Mohawk Valley to home and friends. Amelia collected dolls and loved to send fruitcakes as holiday gifts. Survivors include her 3 nieces: Lisa Harvey and her husband Bob, Judy Damin and Gail Damin and her husband Pete; her 5 nephews: Alan Damin and his wife Karen, Glen Damin and his wife Mary, Mark Damin, Steven Damin and his wife Barbara and Peter Nellis and his wife Pat; her 3 great nieces, 5 great nephews and her 2 great great nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Edward and Peter Damin and by her sister Helen Nellis. There will be no calling hours but her Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Rafael Dadello officiating. Procession will follow to West St. Johnsville Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Gustave.
