ILION/HERKIMER-Mr. William L. “Bill” Singer, 69 most recently Herkimer and formerly of High Street Ilion, passed away on Saturday morning Oct. 2, 2010 in Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford. He was born in Cherry Valley on December 31, 1940, son of the late David and Lucy (LaYoung) Singer, But Bill was raised by Roy and Donella Sponbough of Columbia Center. And was educated in the Mohawk schools. He was married to Phyllis Marie Jaquish on May 4, 1958. She passed away on February 26, 1992 after a long battle with lukemia. Bill was last employed as a final gun inspector with the Remington Arms Company in Ilion retiring after 33 years of dedicated service. He was of the Catholic faith and was a life long valley resident. Mr. Singer was a caring, loving and generous man who was respected by all who knew him. One of his favorite hobbies was bowling and enjoyed the Ilion Bowling Alley. He also loved hunting,fishing and going to OTB Horse Racing and loved to sing and play guitar for family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his beloved family; his children: Rick Singer of Rochester, Donna Randall and husband Cliff DeThomas of Dolgeville, William Singer Jr. and companion Cheryl Martin of Ilion, Michael Singer and wife Robin of Ilion. a brother: Ted Hilts and wife Maria of Herkimer; two sisters: Evelyn Stillman-Whitford and husband Clayton of Brookfield and Charlotte Kupris of New Hartford; his cherished grandchildren: Ricky Jr., Brenda, Jeffery, Christina, Vannessa, Falicia, Rodney, Melissa, Cory, Billy, Ashley, Bronson, Darcey, Anne, Michael, Sarah, Sondra and Tina, 5+ great grandchildren: AutumnRose, Hunter, Elle, Santiago and Tristen; many nieces, nephews, cousins. A special companion of 17 years, Joyce Vanalstine, and a special god daughter Michele Skinner. Besides his wife Phyllis, Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Feldbrugge Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mr. Singer’s funeral will commence at 9:30 am on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from the chapel of the funeral home. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery where interment will take place. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the Dialysis Unit of Herkimer; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home.
