Obituary of Grace S Murphy

LITTLE FALLS-Mrs. Grace S. (Schuyler) Murphy, 88 formerly of Milligan St., Little Falls, most recently of Valley Health Services, passed away on Thursday evening, October 7, 2010 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. She was born on December 19, 1921 in St. Johnsville, daughter of the late Leon and Esther (Phelps) Schuyler and educated in St. Johnsville schools. She received her LPN from the Herkimer County BOCES program and resided in Little Falls since 1940. On October 18, 1944 Grace was united in marriage with William A. Murphy in Hattisburg, Miss., at Sacred Heart Rectory, a loving union of 55 years until Mr. Murphy’s passing in 1999. For many years Grace was employed as a nurse with Little Falls Hospital, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Little Falls AARP Chapter. Mrs. Murphy was a loving and caring individual and enjoyed taking care of people. She always put the needs of others before her own. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, reading and needle point. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her beloved family; a son and daughter in law: William M. Murphy and Jeannie of Little Falls; a daughter: Mary Ann Murphy of Brookline, Ma.; three sisters: Eleanor Blakeslee of Ocala, Fl., Maralyn Henry of Aiken, SC, and Jeanne Kesselring of Hardeeville, SC, two grandchildren: William Murphy and Kim Taylor; two great grandchildren: Daniel Taylor and Cassandra Goodsill; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved son: Michael Murphy; two sisters: Shirley Warensford and Madalyn Colegrove and by three brothers: Warren, Alvin and Leland Schuyler. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls on Monday, October 11, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. Mrs. Murphy’s funeral will commence at 9:30 am on Tuesday, Oct. 12 from the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Lawless, pastor officiating. Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery, town of Herkimer where she will be laid to rest. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the Little Falls Hospital who took wonderful care of Grace and her family. The family is being served by funeral director, Daniel J. Enea.
