Obituary of John Madison

ILION/OPPENHEIM-Mr. John Madison, 83 of London Towers, a native of Oppenheim entered into eternal rest peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown with the support of his family by his side. He was born on June 16, 1927 in Oppenheim, son of the late William and Edna (Jaquay) Madison and educated in Dolgeville area schools. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer. John was a proud United States Marine, World War II Veteran, enlisting in 1944 and was honorably discharged on August 29, 1946. He was a life member of the NRA and United States Hunting Club. Mr. Madison loved hunting and was a fishing enthusiast. He was united to his beloved wife of 58 years, Patricia Stagliano on November 16, 1949 in Dolgeville. She passed away on November 11, 2007. They lived in Dolgeville for 29 years then moved to Herkimer in 1978 and built a new home on McKennan Road, which they sold and then bought a home in 1989 in Terrace Hill Estates, Ilion. John was a life member of the Marine Corps League, Ilion and a life member of the American Legion Post #38 in Herkimer serving as past commander of the Legion from 1986-87 and was the Herkimer County commander from 1987-88. He was last employed with MDS in Herkimer as a dispatcher. Survivors include his beloved family his brothers: James Madison and wife Dolores of Winter Haven, Florida and Cecil Madison of Dolgeville; a sister: Anna Youker of Dolgeville; in laws: Lena Sgroi of Frankfort and Antoinette Stasilli of Herkimer; also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Madison and by a sister, June Ackley. Mr. Madison’s funeral will commence at 11 am on Saturday, November 6, 2010 from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer with Sister Marilyn Hayes, CSJ officiating. Relatives and friends may pay their respects prior to the funeral service on Saturday from 9 am until 11 am. Procession will follow the service to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where he will be laid to rest with his wife and military honors will be offered by the US Marine Corps. The following groups will conduct services at the funeral home on Saturday morning: Marine Corps League at 9:30 am and the Herkimer American Legion Post #38 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider memorial offerings to the Ilion Marine Corps League; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral parlor. The family would like to express their thanks to Little Falls Hospital and Dr. Norman Freund for their professionalism and also to Ilion Ambulance and Rural Metro Ambulance for their compassion.
