Obituary of Mamie Bello

FRANKFORT-Mrs. Mamie M. (Loiacano) Bello, 76, beloved wife of Joseph A. "Joe" Bello, formerly of Litchfield Street, Frankfort and currently residing in New Hartford, entered into eternal rest unexpectedly on Sunday evening, November 7, 2010, in Crouse Hospital, Syracuse. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded with the love and support of her family. Mamie was born on December 24, 1933 in Ilion, NY, a daughter of the late Dominick and Mamie (Castellano) Loiacano. She was educated in West Winfield Schools, and in later years, she graduated from Herkimer County B.O.C.E.S. as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant. Mamie worked at General Electric Company and also as a Nurse’s Assistant at Faxton Hospital in Utica. Mamie was a dedicated and loving caregiver to many people during her career at Faxton and also as a private-duty nurse. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford. On November 20, 1954, Mamie and Joseph A. Bello were united in marriage by the Reverend Michael Fufferd in St. Mary’s Church, Frankfort. She and Joe would have celebrated their loving union of 56 years this month. Mamie is survived by her loving husband, Joe; a son, Joseph and his wife Karen of Cazenovia, daughter, Terri Bello Vecchio and her husband Michael C. of Westmoreland, and son, David M. and Pamela of Herkimer. She was affectionately known as “Nini” to her three adored grandchildren, Brandon D. Bello, Brianne L. Bello, and Michael P. Vecchio. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Cushman, Mohawk, and Beatrice (Joseph) Tocco, Ilion; and brothers, Sam Loiacano and Joseph Loiacano of Ilion, and Thomas (Amelia) Loiacano, Frankfort. She also leaves her in-laws; Mary and Nick Curri, Florida; John and Mary Jane Bello, Utica; Juliet and Philip Rolchigo, Utica; and Amelio Papa, Frankfort; and Verna Loiacano, Ilion. Mamie is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her sisters, Josephine Farouche, Rosalie Cushman, and Virginia Papa; a brother, Andrew Loiacano, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joseph and Lena Bello. Mamie and Joe loved to travel and enjoyed dancing. She was a member of the Polka Club in New York Mills, where she was able to share her love of dancing with her husband. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Mamie’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, cooking, baking, and celebrating holidays and special occasions together. She was never too busy to attend her grandchildren’s important sporting events and other occasions. She was always there to love and support them, and they will miss her dearly. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, November 11, 2010 from 3:30 – 8:00 pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Town of Frankfort, 894-8000. Her funeral will commence at 9:45 am on Friday, November 12 with prayer at the funeral home. Procession will then follow to Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am by the Reverend Alfred A. Lamanna, assisted by Deacon James Bower. She will then be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort. Mamie’s family would like to thank Dr. George Tomy for all his care and concern for Mamie over the years, Dr. Kwabena Boahene, for his wonderful care of Mamie, and the Emergency Room physicians and staff at Crouse Hospital for their kindness and compassion shown to the family at this difficult time.
