Obituary of John Hayes

ST. JOHNSVILLE- Mr. John L. Hayes Jr., 78, of Hough St. entered into eternal rest on November 9, 2010 at Albany Medical Center with his loving family at his side. He was born on July 18, 1932 in Inghams Mills, son of the late John L. and Marion (Eaker) Hayes. On December 30, 1950 he was united in marriage with Caroline Davis at the Grace Christian Parsonage. The couple would have celebrated a loving union of 60 years next month. John was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School. He worked as a Supervisor for Palatine Dye in St. Johnsville as well as running several other Textile Companies in Alabama and Pennsylvania. More than anything else he loved his family. Family was his foremost priority in his life. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. John loved to dance and sing. He especially enjoyed playing poker with his buddies. He was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge #611, a member of the Canajoharie Fish and Game Club , a Village Trustee in St Johnsville for many years, as well as, a part-time police officer. Survivors include his beloved family: his wife Caroline “Carrie”; his two sons : John W. Hayes and his wife Pamela of Fultonville and Peter Hayes and his wife Paula of South Glens Falls; his two daughters Amy Beard of Meco and Nanette Zink and her husband Edward of Walnutport, PA; his grandchildren: Larry Darling and his wife Sandra, Patrick Darling and his wife Erica, Christopher Zink and Carrie Zink; his great granddaughter Aspen Darling; his sisters Ida Luther and her husband Donald of Florida and MaryJane Haddad and her husband Edward of Florida, his aunt Stella Steele, his brother in law Gordon Davis of St. Johnsville and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Ronald Hayes Sr., and his sisters Maggie VanGorder and Donna Moore. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville from 4-7pm on Thursday November 11, 2010. John’s funeral will commence at 11am on Friday, November 12, 2010 from the chapel of the funeral home where a religious service will be offered by the Rev. David A. Johnson. Procession will follow to West St. Johnsville Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in John’s name be made to SAVAC or to the West St. Johnsville Cemetery Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
