Obituary of Mary E Charles

HERKIMER-Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Feilen) Charles, 89 of State Route 28, passed away on Thursday morning, December 16, 2010 in St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica, with the love and support of her family by her side. Mary was born in Newport, Kentucky daughter of the late Peter and Thelma (Collins) Feilen and educated in Newport, Kentucky and Cincinatti, Ohio schools. On September 25, 1943 she was united in marriage with Ronald W. Charles in St. Francis de Sales Church, a loving and devoted union of 56 years until Ronald predeceased her on April 21, 2000. Mary was last employed with MDS in Herkimer as a quality control tech. She was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer and also belonged to the Sts. Anthony and Joseph Rosary Society along with the Columbiette society. Mrs. Charles was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards and was a talented cook. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends. Survivors include her loving family; two daughters: Karen Cool of Silver Spring, MD and Gaylene Charles-Getman and husband Lee of Herkimer with whom Mary resided with; her son: Ronald P. Charles and wife Karen of Herkimer; a sister: Patricia Shields and husband Arthur of Cincinatti, OH; a special sister in law: Louise Feilen of Ft. Thomas, Kentucky; her beloved grandchildren: Michael Cool and wife Mardee, Traci Allen and Eileen Barrett, Tami Mclurg and husband Tony, Scott Allen and Carlos Dudot, Kristin Crane and husband Klint, Sara Goguen and husband Jason and Ronald "Peter" Charles; nine adored great grandchildren; two sons in law: Roger Cool and James Allen; sisters in law: Mildred Marusic of Herkimer and Margaret Charles; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Survivors also include many special friends and a Belgian grandson, Olivier Desmet and his family. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved son, Scott W. Charles and by her siblings, John "Hans", Mike, and Gayle Feilen. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer on Sunday, Dec. 19 2010 from 5-8 pm. Mrs. Charles’ funeral will commence at 9:15 am from the chapel of the funeral home on Monday, Dec. 20th where prayer will be offered and at 10 am from Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer were her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by the Rev. Thomas Lawless, pastor. She will be laid to rest next spring in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. In lieu of flowers kindly consider memorial offerings to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled through director, Daniel J. Enea. The Altar Rosary Society of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer will conduct their service at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home.
