Obituary of Dorothy Snyder

Ilion - Dorothy R. Snyder, age 92, of 76 S. Third Ave., Ilion, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2010, at Little Falls Hospital, with her daughter, Pat, by her side. She was born on November 13, 1918, in Utica, the daughter of Guy A. and Arma (Salisbury) Robinson and graduated from Middleville High School as Salutatorian of her class. After high school, the “Robinson Sisters” were popular entertainers at restaurants throughout the Mohawk Valley and at summer resorts in Old Forge and Inlet. On November 15, 1942, she was married to Vernon F. Snyder. Dorothy accompanied Vernon on several assignments while he served in the Army Air Force, including Pecos, TX, Richmond, VA, and California. In 1946, they returned to Ilion. He passed away on June 6, 1972. Dorothy was the Receiver of Taxes for the Town of German Flatts for twenty years, retiring in 1993. She was a member of the Morning Star United Methodist Church and was Royal Matron of Oriental Court, Order of Amaranth, in 1959. She was also a member of the Newport chapter of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her daughters, Patricia A. Snyder, with whom she resided in Ilion, and Peggy S. Beck, of Alaska; her grandchildren, Genevieve R. Beck and Jonathan R. Beck, of Alaska; her nephew, Charles A. Fergeson and his wife, Annis, of Wake Forest, NC; her cousin-in-law, Catherine D. Fergeson, of Ilion; her nieces, Donna Ernst, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Gwen Deragon and husband, Tom, of Whitesboro, NY; several great-nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friends, Nancy, Tracy, Kathleen, Jane and Cherri. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Doris (Fergeson) Brower; and her special friend, Charles Miller. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Dorothy’s Memorial Service on Sunday, January 9, 2011, at 3 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Rev. Gail Jay and Rev. Michael Jay, Pastors of the New Life Chapel, Town of Ohio, and Rev. Robert Wollaber, Pastor of the Morning Star United Methodist Church officiating. Spring Interment will be in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Town of Little Falls. Visitation will be Sunday, January 9, 2011, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., prior to the funeral home Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Morning Star United Methodist Church Roof Fund, 36 Second St., Ilion, NY. 13357. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. The Snyder Family has entrusted all funeral and interment arrangements to Don Applegate, at Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral home, Ilion.
