Obituary of Frank Ceneviva

HERKIMER-Mr. Frank T. Ceneviva, age 96, of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, January 10, 2011 in Little Falls Hospital. He was born on December 2, 1914 in Wellsville, OH son of the late Thomas and Maria Angela (Scalise) Ceneviva and graduated with Herkimer High School, class of 1934. He lived the greater part of his life in Herkimer. On March 2, 1946 he was united in marriage with Mary R. Vallese in St. Anthony Church, Herkimer with Father Gustav Purificato, officiating. Mrs. Ceneviva passed away on November 1, 1987. A proud US Veteran, Mr. Ceneviva served his country with the US AirForce enlisting on May 29, 1942 and was honorably discharged holding the rank of Private First Class on January 17, 1946. He was stationed at Chanute Field in Champagne, Illinois and at one time received schooling to be a sheet metal specialist. His last professional employment was with the US Post Office of Herkimer where he was a letter carrier holding the position for 31 years, retiring in 1980. He was also employed by the former Chirico Grocery Store for 17 years. Mr. Ceneviva formerly held memberships with the Herkimer VFW Post #4915 and St. Anthony Crusaders. Survivors include his loving family; his son and daughter in law, Thomas and Gail Ceneviva of Sagamore Hills, OH and a daughter and son in law, Marilyn and Peter Newkirk of Albany; two sisters, Domenica “Minnie” Viscome of Herkimer and Gloria Maiola also of Herkimer; three cherished grandchildren: Shelby Newkirk and fiance Joe Grather, Matthew Newkirk and wife Mary Ryan and Judson Newkirk and wife Sarah; two adored great grandchildren: Bartley Matthew Newkirk and Peter O’Hara Newkirk; many nieces, nephews and cousins and a sister in law, Theresa Vallese. He was preceded in death by in laws, Ernie Viscomi and Nick Maiola along with Charles Vallese. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer on Friday, January 14, 2011 from 4-7 p.m. Mr. Ceneviva’s funeral will commence at 10:15 on Saturday, Jan. 15th from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and 11 am from Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by the Rev. Thomas Lawless, pastor officiating. Spring interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., envelopes are available at the funeral parlor. Arrangements are being handled by director, Harry J. Enea, Jr.
