Obituary of Carol Slifka

Mrs. Carol Ann Slifka 83 of 5138 State Rt 29A Stratford, died Tuesday morning January 25, 2011 at her residence after an extended illness, with the support and love of her husband and family at her side. She was born in Weehawken, New Jersey on November 15, 1927 the daughter of Claude H. and Lillian (Aufderheide) Johnnsen Jr. and was educated in schools there; she also attended Knox School for Girls in Cooperstown and Syracuse University. Carol was united in marriage to William Slifka on June 16, 1948 in Dolgeville; they recent celebrated 62 years of marriage. Mrs. Slifka was an officer serving in the capacity of Secretary for the North Hudson Woodcraft Company of Dolgeville, a business in the wood manufacturing industry. Prior to her and her husband moving to Pleasant Lake they resided in Booneville, where she was a member of the Women’s Club, the Women’s Golf League and served as a leader in the Girl Scouts and was a Weblows Den Mother. They moved to Pleasant Lake in the fall of 1976. She is a member of St. Joseph’s Church, and her personal interests were in Crafts of all verities, politics on a national level, cooking, reading and watching wildlife at the Lake, especially humming birds. She is survived by her husband William of 62 years, her son and his wife and family Jeffrey and Laurie Slifka of Salisbury Center, a Daughter Sandra Slifka of Brookfield, Ct. a Sister and her husband Claudia and Fred Wein of Dolgeville, a granddaughter Alexandra Slifka and a grandson Eric Slifka, several nieces and nephews Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday January 29, 2011 at 9 AM at St. Joseph’s Church Helmer Avenue Dolgeville. Rev. William A. Gorman, pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Spring in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. There are NO Calling Hours. Memorials may be sent to the Dolgeville-Manheim Public Library 20-22 North Main Street Dolgeville, NY 13329 in her name. Envelopes will be available at the services. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Brian A. Roberts of the Roberts & Enea Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville.
