ILION-SCHUYLER - Richard “Dick” Murdock, Sr., age 84, of Ilion, formerly of Schuyler, died on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer, with his family at his side. He was born on Dec. 24, 1926, in Springfield, MA, the son of Byron and Agnes (Campbell) Murdock. Dick attended schools in Mohawk and East Frankfort. Richard will be remembered most for his devotion and loyalty to family and friends and his carpentry and mechanical skills. He retired from Mohawk Valley Oil Co. after forty years of service and was a WW II veteran, serving as a staff Sgt. in the Medical Corps, US Army. Dick was a long time member of the East Schuyler United Methodist Church and was past Commander of the American Legion Post, Schuyler. Richard is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Gloria T. Murdock; devoted son, Richard, Jr., and wife, Peggy; daughters, Judy and husband, William Whitford, Sally Murdock, Theresa Voorhees and Russ Collins, JoAnn and husband, Joseph Petkovsek, Mary Kanady, and Martha and husband, James Caliguire; son, Robert, Sr., and wife, Sherry; thirty-five grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Rodney, Sr.; and sisters-in-law, Doris, Alice and Ana Mae Murdock. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Evelyn Roberts and Adeline Brown; brothers, Alfred and Elbert; sons-in-law, Donald Oldfield, Sr. and Ronald Lindsay, Sr.; and two great-grandchildren, Brianna Tarkowski and Grayson Kanady. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, NY, with Rev. Lyle Robison, Pastor of the E. Schuyler United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 30, 2011, from noon to 2 p.m., prior to the funeral home service. Spring interment will be in W. Schuyler Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to E. Schuyler United Methodist Church.
