Obituary of Florence Gorder

ST. JOHNSVILLE- Mrs. Florence E. Van Gorder, 89, of E. Main St. passed away unexpectedly on February 10, 2011 at Little Falls Hospital. She was born on April 29, 1921 in St. Johnsville, daughter of the late Ernest and Anna (Jones) Pierce. She has been married to Everett Van Gorder for over 65 years. Florence will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a life-long resident of St. Johnsville where she was a member of the United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband Everett; her sons G. Dale Van Gorder and his wife Judith of Utica, and Michael Van Gorder and his wife Dawn of Johnstown; her daughter Gayle Malheiro and her husband Bill of Westchester; her sister Ruth Petrie and her husband Walter of Syracuse; her 10 grandchildren: Cherie, Chad Everett, Aron, Alissa, Justin, Jennifer, Jocelyn, Jarrod, Audra and Joy; her 8 great-grandchildren: Charles, Nicholas, Samantha, Kaitlyn, Emily, Madison, Austin, Landon and another great-grandchild on the way; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers Garland Pierce and Thorman Pierce, her sisters Vera Welch and Margaret Van Gorder and her grandson Adam. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5-8pm on Saturday, February 12, 2011 and Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St. St. Johnsville. A religious service will be held at 11am at the funeral home on Monday, February 14, 2011. Burial will take place in West St. Johnsville Cemetery in the spring of 2011 at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Florence’s name be made to SAVAC. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
