Obituary of Rodena Sauer

MOHAWK-Rodena F. "Dee" Sauer, age 67 of Church Street, Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, March 18, 2011 in Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare after a long illness. She had the love and comfort of her family by her side at the time of her passing. She was born in Mohawk on June 15, 1943 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Spencer and Dallas (Petrie) Sauer and graduated with the Mohawk High School “Class of 1961” and was a lifelong Mohawk resident. Rodena was employed with the Polish Community Home in Herkimer for 17 years and was very active with coordinating events there, especially those involving children. She was of the Methodist Faith. For several years, Rodena served on the board of directors with the Herkimer Fairground Association and was very active with the Herkimer County Food Coalition. She enjoyed traveling with her best friend, Fran, playing bingo and most importantly spending time with her cherished family, especially her grandchildren. Rodena will be sorely missed by all the lives that she touched. Survivors include her devoted family; four children: Kimberly Kolar and husband Keith of Mohawk, Mark Hunt and wife Kim of North Dakota, Paul Hunt of Mohawk, and Renee Bayer and husband Randy of Ilion; a sister: Jean Barney of Whitesboro; a sister in law: Karen Sauer of Mohawk; her cherished grandchildren: Kelly, Ashley, Jimmy, Raisa, Jonathan and Shaun; three adored great grandchildren: Deanna, Dana and Alesha; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dean and John Sauer. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. Rodena’s funeral will commence at 10 am on Wednesday, March 23rd from the chapel of the funeral home with Deacon Joseph DeLorenzo officiating. She will be laid to rest, later in the spring, in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Please omit floral offerings. The family offers their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and entire staff at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, especially the Intensive Care Unit for their kindness and compassion.
