Obituary of Everett Gorder

ST. JOHNSVILLE- Mr. Everett Van Gorder, 88, of E. Main St. entered into eternal rest on March 20, 2011 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica, NY. He was born on August 20, 1922, in Lassellsville, the son of the late Clarence and Fannie (Argersinger) Van Gorder. He was married to Florence (Pierce) Van Gorder until her passing on February 10, 2011. Everett was the co-owner of the Van Gorder Brothers Shell Service Station in St. Johnsville for over 30 years. He was a proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was also a longtime member of the American Legion Morris J. Edwards Post 168, St. Johnsville, the Masonic Lodge 611, St. Johnsville and the Ziyara Shriners of Utica, NY. Survivors include his sons G. Dale Van Gorder and his wife Judy of Utica and Michael Van Gorder and his wife DeeDee of Johnstown; his daughter Gayle Malheiro and her husband Bill of Westchester; his 10 grandchildren: Cherie, Chad Everett, Aron, Alissa, Justin, Jennifer, Jocelyn, Jarrod, Audra and Joy; his 9 great grandchildren: Charles, Nicholas, Samantha, Kaitlyn, Emily, Madison, Austin, Landon and Melody; his sister in law Ruth Petrie and her husband Walter of Syracuse; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers Harwood and Lyman. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, St. Johnsville. A religious service will be held at 11 am at the funeral home on Friday, March 25, 2011. Burial will take place at the West St. Johnsville Cemetery on Saturday, May 7th at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Everett’s name be made to SAVAC (St. Johnsville Volunteer Ambulance Corp). Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
