ILION-Mr. Edward F. “Ed” Manley, age 72 of Ilion, passed away suddenly on Saturday afternoon, May 7th, 2011 in Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford in the comfort of his loving family. He was born on January 16, 1939 in Utica, son of the late J. Orville and M. Kathleen (Madden) Manley and graduated with Whitesboro High School, “Class of 1957”. On December 4, 1976, Ed was joined in marriage with his beloved Debra (Gressler) in Little Falls. The couple has shared a blessed and loving union of 34 years. A proud Veteran, Ed enlisted with the US Army on July 11, 1957 and was honorably discharged on June 30, 1963; nearly six years of dedicated service to his country, serving for over two years in Germany. Ed spent most of his working career as a police officer with the Little Falls Police Department, protecting and serving for 17 years. Following his retirement from the LFPD he held employment with Remington Arms as a security guard and lastly with the Oneida New York State Department of Corrections, retiring in 2001 due to health reasons. He was employed in his younger years with the Cherry-Burrell Company, Little Falls. He was of the Catholic Faith. Ed was also a volunteer fireman with the Little Falls Fire Department. A devoted, compassionate and committed man, Ed loved people and lived life to the fullest. He was selfless and was admired for his genuine ability to put others above himself. He found joy, and appreciation spending time with his family. He was active in the lives of his children and grandchildren and loved attending events that were centered on them. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing, playing cards, taking on projects around his home and trips to the casino. He will be missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his devoted family; his wife of 34 years, Debra of Ilion; his children: Tanya McRorie and husband Michael of Sauquoit, Edward F. “Butch” Manley, Jr., of New Hartford, Michael E. Manley and wife Rose of Clinton, Shea C. Manley of Little Falls, Donald F. Manley of Ilion, Scott A. Manley of Little Falls, and Chad M. Manley and wife Bridgett of Ilion; his siblings: John Manley and wife Joan of Florida, Patricia Mehaffy of Whitesboro, and David Manley and wife Sharon of Texas; his cherished grandchildren: Adam and Nicholas McRorie, Emma and Claire Manley, Philip and Marcus Manley, Cory Manley, William, Hailey and Paige Manley, Erin Manley, Lucas Manley; an adored great grandson, Jayden Manley; in laws: Donald Knight of Deerfield and Frances “Petie” Manley of Florida/Whitesboro, Guy Gressler of Tennessee, Louis Wojtowicz of Florida and his beloved canine companion, Wags. Also surviving are many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Manley, a sister, Mary Knight, in laws, Donna Volo-Wojtowicz, Lucy Gressler and Donald Mehaffy, and by a special nephew, Father James Manley. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (894-8000) on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 from 4-8 p.m. A police honor guard will be offered. The funeral will commence at 8:15 am on Wednesday, May 11th from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 9:30 am from St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Whitesboro where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Procession will follow to Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro where Ed will be laid to rest. Military honors will be accorded.
